Chris Jackson's Blog: remembering Chris Cornell of Soundgarden (hug your kids)

May 18, 2017

(above pic: me with my kids - remember to hug 'em if ya got 'em today - 3 kids just lost their dad, Chris Cornell)

I was shocked to hear Soundgarden lead singer Chris Cornell died last night after his Soundgarden concert in Detriot. Reports are coming in that he took his own life. He leaves 3 kids behind.

He had a 4-octave vocal range, and I really love his voice on Soundgarden's "Fell On Black Days."  Chris fell on many black days, struggling with depression so bad he became a teenage loner who dropped out of school.  He also battled alcohol and drug addiction.

Aerosmith's Joe Perry, Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, and Elton John have already tweeted their condolences and respect for Chris Cornell's gift.

Now we've lost the lead singers from Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots.  I hope friends of Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder are checking on him 24/7 - I keep thinking of those "Final Destination" movies.

Of all the singers I just listed, I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I love Chris Cornell's voice the most.

Hug those kids ~
