Celeste Perry: San Jose Police Crack Down On Placard Violators

It's Just Wrong To Use The Handicap Sign If You Don't Need One

April 20, 2017

On the long list of things "you just shouldn't do, because you know better", this infraction is way at the top of my list.  Don't use a handicap placard unless you need one.  There's a new enforcement operation encompassing a four-block radius near San Jose City Hall which is part of a statewide crack down on handicap placard scofflaws who use the signs to avoid parking meters or to get more convenient parking places. Fines to violators can vary from $250 to $1000. Here's more on the story from the San Jose Mercury News.  VIOLATION

Many years ago my dad had a minor surgery to his knee and his doctor offered him a disabled parking placard.  I'll never forget my father's reaction: "Give it someone else who needs it more than I do".  My dad was always so practical and humble.  His example is a constant reminder to me to be thankful for my good health.
