Hangs out in: Carnegie (Livermore) and Hollister Off Road Parks as well as Stonyford and Upper Lake riding areas. Fishing happens on streams in Nor Cal and Clear Lake and Berryessa as well as the Delta and the Bay.
Likes: Everything outdoors. Mountain and road biking, fishing, boating, walking my dog, motorcycle riding on and off road. I compete in some off road racing, camping... well you get the idea.
Extras: Video game player and home BBQ pitmaster
Books: I almost always am reading some non-fiction. True Crime books are pretty fascinating.
I'm sure we all have t-shirts that bring back some crazy memories. My T-Shirt today is from the 1992 Baja 1000. Back then my friend raced a 5/1600 Baja Bug and I was frequently part of the pit crew that helped out. I was often in Mexico driving a truck full of race gas, spare tires, assorted VW parts, and camping gear for VMAR Racing from Napa. This year the VW broke down after about 24 hours on the Pacific beach about 100 miles from the finish in La Paz. We just had to get it to the pavement and maybe push it down the highway. See on the shirt just to the left of the "finish" at La Paz? Right there at that turn. We tried to think of everything to fix it to get it the rest of the way but it just wasn't going to happen.
Heartbreak!
On the way back home another of our pit crew got pulled over in the middle of the night by a fake police car that robbed them at gunpoint then shot out both left side tires.
There's no question I love racing. Give me anything on a track from motorcycles, Sprint Cars, NASCAR, Formula 1 or anything else. Make it dirt or pavement, oval, track, or road course. I love it all!
One of my favorites is endurance Sports Car racing. Multi hour races have a sense of tension that can't be duplicated in a 10 lap, or 1 hour, or 2 hour race. In great events like the 24 hour races of Daytona and Le Mans it is a year long effort to get to the track for the teams. The logistics of all the crew and teams and drivers is tough to get right. If you do you hope to run hard for 24 hours and finish.
To win those events is a dream.
One local team that has done this is from Petaluma "The Racers Group" run by Kevin Buckler. His story is pretty fascinating. It sounds like a Silicon Valley startup. It began in his garage and with lots of passion and hard work it has moved on to victories at the greatest endurance sports car events in the world. The Racers Group also helps "regular" folks like you and me drive some great Porsche cars on the track.
His team is headed to Laguna Seca this weekend for the American Le Mans series race. Go and see some really cool cars and say "hi" to The Racers Group in the pits!
One more thing...
Kevin Buckler's other love is wine. So he started award winning Adobe Road Winery as well. Yes he's a busy guy that does what he loves.
I had a great time at the House of Thunder in Morgan Hill for the Harley Days of May kickoff party.
I have always have fun hanging out with motorcycle people.
Maybe Steve McQueen said it best in the movie On Any Sunday
"Every time I start thinking the world is all bad, then I start seeing people out there having a good time on motorcycles;
it makes me take another look."

Hope you participated in Record Store Day. Even if you didn't buy anything maybe you thought about it. Yes some are still around, and yes you can get new music on LP these days!
I worked at a new and used record store in San Francisco called "Revolver Records" on Clement Street in the early 80's. I learned a lot about music there and had great co-workers that helped me in many ways as a young kid going to college. It was a great experience. I did have a lot to learn.
I remember a guy coming in asking for "John Barleycorn Must Die" I walked over to the "B" section with him, looked for an album by Barleycorn, John called "Must Die" and said "um no we don't have that."
I didn't know that was the name of a Traffic album.
D'oh! Stupid kid!
Here's my favorite Record Store Day customer story. When I worked at Revolver Records we sold new and used records. We bought and sold various styles of music.
One day an older guy came in and walked to the Frank Sinatra section, he got 3 or 4 albums and came to the counter saying how he is a big Sinatra fan and had been looking for these original recordings for a long time and was so happy. He bought them and left.
Same day he came back and demanded his money back. We had charged him $5.00 each and ripped him off! When asked how he said "These are in MONO, for $5.00 I want stereo!" When explained that the mono or "Hi Fi" albums were worth more since they were the original recordings he didn't care.
It could have turned into a big deal, explaining the fake awful stereo tricks used on those albums from the original recordings that ruined the sound etc but that didn't happen. We took them back gave him his money back and left it alone.
I still use a turntable to listen to music from time to time, you can find some great deals in those used record stores. Take a chance on something for a few dollars, maybe you'll like it!
New turntables even hook up to your computer to convert the LP album to a digital album. It's easy to do, and that little scratchy sound between songs sounds kind of cool to me!

Got a few quotes in the paper about Bruce Springsteen. I was asked why he is still relevant and important and interesting. Bottom line for me is that he is a great songwriter that matches the times he is in. As a young guy, "Born To Run." Now, different.
I will never forget hearing songs from his post 9/11 album for the first time. When I hear "My City of Ruins" it still gives me the chills, so much so that when it comes on the iPod or radio I have to think to myself do I want to hear this? The images in my head aren't good ones.
Jim Harrington wrote the article, it's a good one.
I really love music and am always a little sad when musicans pass away but I also think of it as a time to give thanks for what they did and what they left behind. Like any artist their work will last forever.
The Band was a band that I came to like very much but only after they broke up. Last Waltz is a really good movie, but it also makes me a litte sad when I see it because it represents a band of musicans that decided to part ways.
While I never got to see them live I have really liked their music all these years. One of their biggest songs is "Up On Cripple Creek" and here they are talking about recording the song.
I love Levon Helm at the end telling us about drumming and singing at the same time.
